ARE YOU AND YOUR ANIMALS PREPARED FOR AN EMERGENCY?

Proactively creating a disaster action plan (DAP) is a vital step you can take to ensure the best possible outcome for your animals. Our volunteers are available to partner with animal owners to develop a DAP specific to their needs.

DAPs are kept on file with our organization and we encourage animal owners to regularly update their DAPs and communicate changes to Solano CART to help expedite potential support during an emergency.

Solano CART works in cooperation with local government and non-governmental agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for animals during an emergency. The type of incident requiring support will dictate the type of assistance we provide, including evacuations and sheltering-in-place or welfare checks.

Since its founding, our Disaster Service Worker trained volunteers have responded to several disasters including the 2020 LNU Complex in Solano County, and the 2021 Caldor Fire as a part of a mutual aid response with Solano County Animal Control.

HOW WE CAN HELP

When disaster strikes, our team of trained, sworn disaster services volunteers can be activated to provide support. For safety and liability reasons, Solano CART cannot at any time evacuate sick or injured animals without permission from Solano County Animal Control.

During any type of evacuation, it is the owner’s responsibility to arrange temporary housing for their animals whether it be with a member of the community or an incident-related shelter.

Solano CART does not provide sheltering or housing services. We do however maintain a list of community volunteers who may be willing to temporarily house livestock during an emergency.

EVACUATION WARNINGS

When an evacuation warning is issued for your area by Solano County, our evacuation team can be contacted for assistance. We encourage community members to work with Solano CART before an emergency to create a DAP to keep on file with our organization.

EVACUATION ORDERS

When an evacuation order is issued for your area by Solano County, Solano CART must be activated through the Office of Emergency Services (OES) to assist, and owners should contact animal control directly. This allows our team of trained volunteers to partner with the county for a coordinated and safe evacuation of animals.
